Sanwo - Olu aid died in lone auto crash at Maryland It was a Black Friday as Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu lost his Senior Special Assistant on Tertiary Education, Youths and Students Affairs, Omotayo Sanyaolu , in a lone auto crash at Maryland area of the state. According to reports, the unfortunate accident occurred in the early hours on Friday, at about 4.01 AM, within the vicinity of Army Cantonment, Maryland , Ikeja Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority, LASEMA , Dr.   Femi Oke Osanyantolu , confirmed the sad accident. Boat mishap in Lagos: 4 bodies recovered Four bodies have been recovered from Friday’s boat mishap at Ojo area of Lagos. The four bodies, part of passengers in a W19 fibre boat carrying 16 passengers were recovered at Mile 2 area on Saturday. The boat capsized on Friday night. General Manager, Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), Mr. Oluwadamilola Emmanuel , confirmed the recovery to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Sunday. He said the state government had vowed to enforce safety measures and go after substandard boat operators. The general manager condoled with the families of victims who lost their lives in recent boat mishaps in the state. Fifteen (15) shot dead in Soweto Township bar in South Africa At least 15 people have been shot dead in a bar in South African township of Soweto, police report. Police said gunmen entered the Orlando East tavern in the early hours of Sunday morning and started firing randomly at a group of young people. They then fled the scene in a white minibus. No motive for the attack has been established, police said.   Several more people are in a critical condition in hospital, our source gathered. The victims are believed to be between 19 and 35 years old. Gauteng province's head of police, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela , told our reporter that the shooting appears to have been "a cold-blooded attack on innocent tavern patrons." FOREIGN: SRI LANKA PRESIDENT ANNOUNCE RESIGNATION   Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has announced he will step down after protesters stormed his official residence and set the prime minister's house on fire. Neither the PM nor the president were in the buildings at the time. Hundreds of thousands descended on the capital Colombo, calling for President Rajapaksa to resign after months of protests over economic mismanagement. He will step down on 13 July. PM Wickremesinghe has agreed to resign as well.   The speaker of parliament said the president decided to step down "to ensure a peaceful handover of power" and called on the public to "respect the law". The announcement triggered an eruption of celebratory fireworks in the city. Political leaders are due to hold further meetings to discuss a smooth transition of power. Ronaldo Failed to attend three consecutive Man United’s training sessions Manchester United forward, Cristiano Ronaldo has not attended the club’s pre-season training for a third straight day, following his absence today.   Daily Mail reported on Wednesday that his action has put the Old Trafford outfit in the dark as to whether he will travel with the squad on their pre-season tour of Asia and Australia. Ronaldo said his family matters were the reason for his absence on Monday and Tuesday, after telling the club on Saturday that he wished to leave this summer. Monkey pox: Nasarawa confirms six cases in two LGAs Nasarawa State has confirmed six cases of monkey pox in two Local government areas. Confirming the outbreak of the disease in Lafia, the state commissioner of health, Ahmed Baba Yahaya  said the first case was reported in Keffi Local government in May this year. According to the Commissioner, health care workers in the state have been sensitized and trained on the occurrence of the disease while drugs and essential commodities  have been procured  and treatment obtained in all general hospitals and the Federal Medical Centre Keffi. CHILDREN DISCOVERED IN UNDERGROUND CELL IN ONDO STATE No fewer than 50 children have been rescued from an underground apartment in a church in Ondo town, Ondo state . Defiwjumps.com gathered that the children were abducted and kept in the underground cell. The pastor of the church and other accomplices have been arrested by police detectives in the town in Valentino Area of Ondo. Libya protesters storm parliament building in Tobruk   Protesters have stormed Libya's parliament in the eastern city of Tobruk and set fire to part of the building. Images posted online showed thick columns of smoke as the demonstrators burned tyres outside. There have been rallies in other Libyan cities against continuing power cuts, rising prices and political deadlock.
